Samoa on the road to renewable energy

Samoa has a new five-year Energy Sector Plan 2017-2022 to guide further development of her energy sector.

The plan was launched by Samoa’s Minister of Finance, Hon. Sili Epa Tuioti in Apia along with a species booklet “Plant Life”.

Aiming to a reduction of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions from the Electricity sub sector, it focuses on increased investments in the generation of electricity from renewable energy, improved access and reliability of electricity supply, and better efficiency of road transport energy use. It also aims to integrate enhanced management of climate and disaster resilience into energy planning and implementation, and to improve the supply, management and safety of petroleum.

The plan was developed through a consultative process including feedback during national consultation workshops, which brought together representatives of public, private and regional stakeholders.
