Solar Boarding School Project

Objectives

The Replacing Diesel-powered Generation Mini-grids in Large Boarding Schools in Solomon Islands with Solar Hybrid Generation Project aims to contribute to objectives 4, 6 and 7 of the Solomon Islands National Development Strategy 2011-2020, and National Energy Policy renewable energy target of 50% by 2020 (installed capacity).

Outcomes

  1. Increased access to reliable and affordable electricity across all Selwyn College staff and student facilities through solar hybrid system with battery bank by end June 2018
  2. Increased availability of water supply across all Selwyn College staff and student facilities by end June 2018
  3. Improved opportunities to replicate solar hybrid systems in other schools and institutions in rural Solomon Islands through the development of a sustainable model to operate and maintain the electricity supply system by end June 2018
  4. Enhanced understanding of demand side management measures for electricity and water within staff and students of Selwyn College by end June 2018
